El Potrero Chico Rock Climbing
Located only a few hours south of the United States border, Potrero Chico ("little corral") is a climber's paradise nestled above the medium-sized town of Hidalgo. Conveniently, only 1 hour from the international airport in Monterrey, Hidalgo is a clean, safe town with a friendly and welcoming local community. The 2,000 foot limestone walls tower above the beautiful Chihuahuan Desert, part of the Sierra Madre range. The limestone in Potrero Chico is positive and sharp, mostly on pocketed faces, with everything from 5.8 moderate multipitch to challenging 20-pitch 5.12 routes. With comfortable winter temperatures, easily accessible world-class climbing, and surrounded by a safe community, El Potrero Chico should be on every climber's tick list.
La Posada casita and campground is the climber's hangout, offering private rooms or campsites w/ a large public kitchen, relaxing outdoor pool, and free WiFi connection. With affordable lodging, a casual atmosphere, and breathtaking views of the surrounding cliffs, you can kick back and enjoy your climbing vacation.
